For over two decades, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has been at the heart of an economic and geopolitical war linked to its immense natural resources. The provinces of North and South Kivu, rich in coltan, gold, cobalt, cassiterite, and other strategic minerals, have become the theater of a conflict that extends far beyond national borders.
Behind the official rhetoric of peace and regional integration lie
colossal economic interests. The recent Washington Accords between Rwanda and
the DRC, as well as the regional economic integration project supervised by the
United States, fit into this logic. In reality, they constitute a
diplomatically crafted instrument designed to legitimize and institutionalize
the exploitation of Congolese minerals by Rwanda, for the benefit of foreign
powers, primarily the United States.
